Sunday, 12th October 2014, a fundraising event in aid of World Cyclist Biresh Dahal and his companions was organised by Skills & Care at the Neplese community Hub in Charlton. The event was attended by around 70 people including children. Biresh has undertaken an unusual mission for world peace. Over the past decade, Biresh Dahal has ridden a bike backwards in 57 countries across three continents to spread his message of non-violence. He is travelling with two companions, who unlike him, prefer to ride forwards.
The event was coordinated by Skills & Care’s trustee, Yadav Bhandari and within a short span of time, with help of like-minded people, total of £722.00 was collected, excluding the donation from Sujan Katuwal of Panas Restaurant Group. Sujan has pledge to donate 10% of Panas Restaurant takings on 12th October 2014 to the cyclist.
The fundraising event was sought following to recent news in Nepali Diaspora that the cyclists were stranded at NepaleseEmbassy London due lack of fund. At the event, Biresh presented his 24mins video presentation which are well-received by the audiences; many of the donors actually topped-up their donations after watching the presentation. Newly appointed coordinator of Nepali Class Mr Suraj KC said that the event and presentation has made positive contribution to children learnings; the presentation demonstrates that if you have willingness and dedication, anything is possible.
At the end of the event the Cyclists were escorted to Panas Restaurant for a Reception.
